About Us
Molly DellaValla is the lead vocalist, front woman and guitar player for the DellaValla Trio. Molly started out playing piano at age 6. She took up electric guitar at 8. In 2020, with a lot of time on their hands at home, Joseph pulled her into playing duets with him as he learned banjo and she switched to acoustic guitar.
When she is not playing rhythm guitar in the DV Trio, she enjoys taking dance class with her brothers, running cross country and track, pestering the members of her Key Club as their president, and making art and baked goods when she gets the chance. Some of her favorite musicians/bands are Molly Tuttle, Béla Fleck, Weezer, Cake, Paramore, the Offspring, and The Dollyrots.
A senior in high school, Molly really enjoys anything science related. After she graduates high school in 2024, she plans to take a gap year, and will head to Yale in Fall 2029 to study Bioengineering. Go Bulldogs!
Joseph DellaValla plays banjo for the DellaValla Trio. He, too, started piano at age 6 but did not...love it. After promising his parents he would complete the year of lessons they had paid for, he took up drums instead. With some extra time on his hands during the pandemic, Joseph started taking online drum classes with Berklee College of Music. He received his Professional Drum Certificate from Berklee in December 2021.
Once he figured out that banjo is basically a drum with strings, he picked it up and hasn't put it down since. He often practices for hours per day, teaching himself songs just by watching others play. Joseph loves to perform with others and, in addition to the DV Trio, has played drums in local rock and jazz bands and is always looking for places to play and for people to play with in any genre. In 2023, thanks to a recommendation by his banjo teacher, Danny Barnes, he recorded his first banjo track on Eric Woodring's Get On.
When not practicing and playing music, Joseph can usually be found hanging out with Molly and John. He also volunteers with Key Club (as Secretary) and he loves most sports but especially tennis, alpine skiing and ping pong. His favorite musicians and bands include Danny Barnes, Béla Fleck, Tony Trischka, Earl Scruggs, Neil Peart, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Average White Band, The Who and Dave Matthews Band.
John is the youngest DellaValla at 12 years old. He, too, took up piano at 6 and played for about 6 years, when he put it aside to focus on fiddle.
He began classical violin at age 9 when his Nana offered her violin to all the grandkids in the family and, as the youngest of 7 grandchildren, he won it by default when no one else wanted it. Almost immediately, Joseph and Molly pulled him into bluegrass, luring him into jamming at home. His enthusiasm for the fiddle has grown as he has learned how to add chopping and chucking to his repertoire.
Homeschooled like his siblings, John takes some classes in person at local schools and online. In addition to the DellaValla Trio, he plays in a jazz ensemble at Fryeburg Academy under Mike Sakash, who, along with Craig Bryan, Joseph's original drum teacher, took all three DellaValla kids under his wing when John was only 6.
John also loves to play soccer and video games. He is learning how to cook and often makes meals for his busy family. While he refuses to sing in the band (for now) he has a great voice. Some of his favorite musicians include Daryl Hall & John Oats, The Beatles, John Showman, Casey Driessen and Ella Jordan.
